Windows Explorer Popup access violation

Following a catastrophic blue screen crash, I had to
reinstall WinXP Pro. Now I've run into a problem with
Windows Explorer. When I put the cursor over filenames
of certain graphic files, it dumps out of Explorer (and
the app that was using it) to the Desktop. It only does
this with some graphic files and not others.

Normally when the cursor passes over a filename, a popup
window shows file info. But in this case, the hourglass
cursor comes up, as though it's loading something, then
it kicks out of the program.

One program referred to an access violation but I never
could catch the number, because it only flashed briefly.

I have no idea what to look for. Anybody got a clue?

Ray,

Start your troubleshooting with the certain graphic files and the app that
was using it.
