Windows Explorer keeps crashing

Explorer keeps crashing on one of my machines. A combined "Cuts-and-pastes"
of the error messages received is at:

http://show.imagehosting.us/show/1811930/28887/user_28887/T0_28887_1811930.jpg

The three messages come one after the other. This on a Windows XP Pro SP 2
machine with all patches up to date. AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM,
80 GB SATA HDD, nForce 3 mobo.

The first error message is received randomly whenever a file is opened
anywhere in Windows Explorer. or sometimes in the Open dialog box of any
application (eg MS Word 2003, Adobe Premiere 1.5, Windows Media Player
11.....). Does not happen always for every file. Also sometimes after
closing Explorer. The other error messages follow.

Cannot correlate with anything specific, eg file type, or even time of day.

SFC /scannow, CHKDSK /F and /R, AntiVir, AdAware, Spybot .... all turned up
nothing.

On local suggestion the memory module was swapped out; the system drive
cloned and replaced temporarily + CPU swapped too. Memtest ran with flying
colors. No change.

And at last, the kicker: did a complete reinstall and updated all patches.
Error reappeard before application software could even be loaded.

Regards and TIA for any insight.

After the complete reinstall and patches OF WINDOWS ONLY, did it cause the
error.
Or did it cause and error after you reloaded everything.

If it doesn't fail after a complete reinstall and patches of Windows only,
then it is a problem with opne of the third-party applications you are
installing.

I would reinstall Windows and patches to Windows only, Then test. Then add
applications one at a time, test and then see what app is causing the
problem.

Be careful of Anti-Spyware applications, since if you have real-time
protection on, it will place itself in between Windows Explorer and the
option you select, in order to pre-process the file.

If you are getting crash dumps (minidumps), you can use Windows Debugger and
see what application is causing it.

Your link did not work for me. Please post copies in a more conventional
way.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

As already mentioned in my first post, the error resurfaced after the OS and
updates install - before *any* non-MS software was loaded!

Now, another quirk has started - almost every time a file is double-clicked
to open it, nothing happens for almost 90 seconds. During this time, I
cannot close Explorer or select another item. I can, however, use the Start
menu to open any other application.

Never seen anything like this before!
