Platform: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.

Whenever I log on to Windows, open the Windows Explorer, and double click
any partitions(e.g. C:\),the entire folder trees flicker while a process
called "verclsid.exe" flickers simultaneously under Windows Task Manager.

What's wrong with my Windows Explorer?

This was an issue that surfaced quite a while ago (possibly early last
year?) between a Windows Update and HP Share-to-web printer software.
Here's the MS Knowledge Base article about it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

Google search about it:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=verclsid.exe&btnG=Google+Search

If you don't use the Share-to-web software (and I've never met anyone who
did), uninstall it or otherwise disable it.

Oh,that's weird. Although I have an HP LaserJet 1022 installed, I never heard
of that "Share-to-web" thing until I checked that MS KB article. I searched
for the "specific component that causes problems(Hpgs2wnd.exe)"(as MS called
it) on my PC, it turned out this very .exe was nowhere to be found on my hard
drive.

Thanks for your advice. But it seems not the real problem here.

Since you do have an HP printer, consider updating its drivers and/or
contacting them since the issue normally does arise from a conflict between
HP printer software (perhaps Director?) and XP.

If that doesn't help, I'm sorry but I'm out of ideas. You might want to do a
search for "verclsid" on Google Groups Advanced Search, constraining the
search to:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax

I've recently(actually, last month) reinstalled my Windows XP after I'd found
this problem. Luckily, after reinstallation, the problem seemed to be gone.
Then,I started to install my applications one by one. After installing an
application,I would reboot,log on to Windows,open Windows
Explorer,double-click any of the local partitions(usually C:\) to see if the
problem had recurred. After several smooth(without the problem recurring)
installations of applications,something weird happened.
(Note:I'm disconnected from the Internet or LAN when I install applications.)

After finishing installation of Camtasia Studio 5(with "Live Output"
installed),it recurred. So I restored my PC using Ghost 8.3 to the status
where the problem was nowhere to be found and updated my Zone Alarm Security
Suite 7.0.462.000 and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise+AntiSpyware Enterprise
8.5i. After doing that,I full-scanned my system using both ZA & McAfee. Both
said "Nothing found". So I assumed this problem had nothing to with viruses
or spywares,etc. Then,I continued installing applications,starting from
Camtasia Studio 5 again to confirm if the problem was really caused by it.
Strangely enough, this time, when I opened Windows Explorer and did what's
shown in the .gif, nothing happened. I'd rebooted PC several times to
confirm, yes, nothing happened. So,at this point,I made a Ghost backup of my
system.

Then, there came the really weird thing. After finishing installation of Nero
8,I spotted that problem again, suddenly and surprisingly. At first,I thought
it had something to with the installation of Nero Scout,so I disabled Nero
Scout and rebooted and did once again what's shown in the .gif. That problem
was still active. Oh,by the way,I didn't choose to install "ASK TOOLBAR" when
installing Nero 8.

Now,I'm totally puzzled. Why did the same problem(or symptom) occur after
the installation of two DIFFERENT applications? I guess one of the logical
answers would be:"The legitimate verclsid.exe is hijacked by some malwares."

Even though your subject looks more like spam than anything else, I did
read your post.

Unfortunately, although you've provided an interesting narrative, you
never (that I saw) stated what "the problem" is that you seem to be having.

Try posting with a descriptive subject and a description of the problem
at the top of the message.
