Windows Explorer Locks on Folder

B

Bruce

Machine runs Windows XPHome.

Whenever I try to log on to a particluar folder, C:\Videos, Explorer
locks up, and I can't click on anything at all. I eventually get
"DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to
close".

If I go to TaskManager, I see C:\Videos is not responding. I have to end
task.

It only happens on C:\Videos

Any ideas?

Hi Bruce,

This has to do with how Windows XP previews files when opened with Explorer.

Automated:

AVI Search Remove (Line 74)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Manual Edit: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to the key below and
delete the default data (right pane).

Or:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler

Windows Stops Responding When You Click a Large AVI File in Windows
Explorer" http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822430

Thanks, again, Kelly. I manually edited the registry, and I'm back to
normal. I did have a 717,424KB avi file in that folder.
