Windows Explorer: filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect

C

Chad Richardson

After having a session of windows explorer open for some period of time,
once I return, I click on a folder and get the error:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Chad\Desktop\Desktop\a square symbol appears
here\Technology is not accessible.

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

If I then refresh the window, the rebuild of the directory structure looks
peculiar (has various icons instead of the standard folder icon).

I have a Win XP Pro, IE 6.0.28 SP1.

I had this problem on my old laptop, then used the file and settings
transfer wizard to move things to my new laptop, and this problem came with
it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chad

Get a better news server and learn how to search with Google Groups.

Or, if you didn't like Jan's answer refer to it instead of reposting identically
a day after.

Since you are using Outlook Express you can access these newsgroups
using the msnews server by clicking on the following link:

< news://msnews.microsoft.com/ >

Actually, since IE doesn't seem to be involved I think it would be better
if you posted in a newsgroup which is more specifically related to XP
and its file system.

I think I've found _something_ but not sure what it means. I have the
same problem, and I notice we both have a "desktop" folder on our
desktop.

Try renaming that folder. Just a guess.
