The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect

HI,

I've been hunting all over the net for help with this, but
I haven't been able to find anything on it.

I went on google, looked on Microsoft's KB site and
various other places. So basically my problem is with
windows file explorer. A while back I started noticing my
fileexplorer would glitch out after a bit of extended use
saying something like C:\Windows\Program Files\*\Sierra\
is not accessible. The filename, directory name, or volume
label syntax is incorrect. The asterisk represents a weird
dot shape that appears between the directory listing that
does not exist in my actual directory tree. Also when the
error pops up, a long chain of extra directories appears
at the bottom of my directory tree all with the blank no
icon appearance, and also without names.

IE and other programs within XP that use the explorer
shell still fuction perfectly fine, and I can browse my
files fine from My Computer. Within file explorer the
right window works fine, but the separate part on the left
with the directory tree becomes instantly nonfunctional.
This is very frustrating any any help would be
appreciated. I have already tried reinstalling windows and
udating with whatever patches are available on the Windows
Update site. I did a clean install, and it will work for a
month, and then the error comes back again. reinstalled
ie, removed almost all my programs, dont have any spyware,
and no virus at all. These two things i am absolute
positive about.

Any other suggestions are welcomed. Thank you for your
help with my problem.

I found problem and fixed it... I had a directory called desktop in my desktop directory for copying old files from my old computer over to new. Changed directory name to desktoptwo and fixes problem.
