Hi:

What is the difference of an entry in Windows explorer
that is blue vs black. In some folders I have enteries
where the name type size and date modified are all black
letters and other entries are in blue. Any help you could
provide would be appreciated.

regards and thanks

By default blue entries represent compressed files and folders, black
entries are not compressed. Green entries, if you see them, represent
encrypted files/folders.

Greetings --

By design, WinXP compresses files that do not get used frequently,
and, if you've left the default settings intact, displays those files
in blue.

In Windows Explorer, Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced
settings: Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.

Windows uses color coding for folders for easy identification. The encrypted
or compressed NTFS files in color.

You can change the display of files and folders that are compressed in
Windows Explorer and My Computer, so it is easy to see them. To display
compressed files in color:

01. Double-click Folder Options in Control Panel.
02. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
03. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
04. On the View tab, click to select the Show encrypted or compressed NTFS
files in color check box.
