windows experience index graphics is wrong

Hi, my WEI rating is 1.0, because WEI is incorrectly identifying my graphics
card as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and only running DirectX8
compatiable with a driver version 6.0.6000.16386.

I actually have a Nvidia 8800GTX running latest drivers (7.15.11.5818)

Of course my card is more than enough for vista and runs Aero, games etc
nicely.

Why is WEI incorrectly rating my graphics card as a default VGA?

(Running Vista Ultimate)

Have you tried updating the Windows Experience score? It may be reflecting
the first time it ran before the NVIDIA drivers were installed.

As Dustin says try updating your score. That would be the first thing I
would be doing.

And as the OP's score rises, mine just fell 2 points having installed the
latest drivers.. I can see me having to get a new video card when MS
releases 'Purble Place 2: The Cakes Strike Back'

Mike, I read somewhere on the NG that one guy's experience index actually
'rose' when he installed new ATI drivers!

Make my day, why don't you!!

I don't need silly numbers to tell me my graphics card is below par when I
have just taken a 737 on what should have been an easy run from London
Heathrow to Abu Dhabi and ended up ditching over Windsor Castle, or warped
in CFS 3 to find myself pitted against a Vickers Vimy and two Sopwith
Camels..

What does surprise me is the amount of people willing to change makes just
to get a couple more points on the 'Vichta' scale.. I will stick with my
'discontinued' n6600 and restrict myself to pleasure flights over Terminal
4.. hmmmph..

The 747's auto pilot is run by Windows Vista:) It reminded me of Friday's
news were the Government have made suggestions about 'tagging' the elderly
and using satellite to track them. SATNAV can't even direct you to the right
street without taking you through a river, canal weir, so how the hell are
they going to find old people? :)

Seriously Mike, I agree with you. The numbers, to me, are meaningless, so
long as the hardware does what it's supposed to do who cares whether your
Windows experience Index is 2.5 or 99.9. I changed my video card just as the
beta started and that was only because I couldn't get Aero (it was an old
ATI Radeon 9200. I simply upgraded to a 9550.

But aren't PC's getting like cars now? You 'must' have the latest, fastest,
most luxurious PC that money can buy. Of course you must, if you are daft
enough to line the pockets of the PC manufacturers. My PC, know doubt yours
is too, has a job to do, it isn't there to impress the neighbours.

Thank god the catering isn't run by Vista.. it would take forever for the
food cart to make it all of the way down the plane.. Stewardess to
passengers "We apologies for the delay, but the food cart is calculating the
time it will take to get to baggage class - please wait - oops, the contents
of the food trays have all been converted to RAW format. The food cart is
looking for a resolution to the problem - please wait - you now have three
choices ......."

I bought the 6600 because I was fed up with being shot by my own forward
facing, wing mounted guns, and that was assuming I didn't crash into trees
at the end of the strip and not get off of the ground at all if Outlook
decided to check for mail..

When I first saw the performance indicator, I had that sinking feeling that
some would just go all out to get the highest numbers possible.. for myself,
I was just left in an indignant state and with the thought that my stuff was
cutting edge once upon a time.. yes, it is just like the auto market.. gotta
have the car that hits 60mph in 4.2 secs or I will be the disgrace of the
street.. it doesn't matter that I have to almost break the transmission,
attract PD cruisers from all sides, and see off a set of $1000 per corner
tires doing it..

Shhhhh, not a word to anybody, but I used to own a BMW M6, and the car in
front of me was never a Toyota.. well, if parked up maybe.. :)

Bump what? You haven't quoted any of the message to which you refer so the
problem is unknown. Also Bump doesn't do anything in a Usenet newsgroup. I
think you posted on to an existing thread. You might want to consider
creating a new thread giving the relevant details.

I don't know what they guy did, because mine fell when I moved from the 7.4
to 7.5 set: from 4.4 to 3.8! That *can't* be right.
