Windows + E Keyboard Shortcut

P

Paul Johnson

I have a brand new Dell with WindowsXP service pack 2 and it has been joined
to my Windows 2003 domain.

The Windows Logo + E keyboard shortcut will not work. Nothing happens (not
stickykeys)
any idea what might casuse this or how to fix it.

All other keyboard shortcuts work properly

Ask your network systems administrator if it has been disabled with
Group Policy.

Have you checked Services. My keyboard layout (MS older keyboard)
caused me to Touch type the Windows Key by accident too many times.
I turned off the HID input service which disables the Windows Logo Key.

I used to answer questions that could be similar to yours in the 98 groups where explorer takes on wierd names pretending to be something other than explorer. The problem is that I've answered tens of thousands of posts about explorer and cannot search without getting zillions of hits (I wasted a 1/2 hour reading my old posts when you first posted).

Maybe search my old posts on google.

The thing to note that Explorer and Internet Explorer are the same program. Both are really explorer. In the similar problems it takes on the name of a folder rather than Explorer or Internet Explorer. I know I solved it - just don't remember how. Not that it matters. Both WE and IE browse the web and local files. And if browsing internet content looks like IE and if browsing local files looks like WE (type a web address in the address bar in WE and a local path in IE to demostrate).

A web site is local path

Desktop - Internet Explorer (a hidden desktop folder) - <the web page open>

Consider making a Windows Explorer shortcut and add it to your
Quick Launch bar:

1. Right-click on your Desktop and select: NEW > SHORTCUT
2. In the Create Shortcut window, type in: EXPLORER.EXE , and click "Next"
3. In the next window, type in: Windows Explorer , and click "Finish"
4. A new Windows Explorer shortcut icon will appear on your Desktop.
5. Unlock the Taskbar, then drag the shortcut to it.
