Slow opening of Explorer using Windows+E

If I try to open Windows Explorer using the Windows+E keys the computer
freezes for a while (perhaps 3 minutes) before opening Explorer. If I open
Explorer from Start/Accessories/Windows Explorer or a shortcut I have set
up there is no problem. Does anyone have ideas on finding out why the
Windows+E method is not working properly. Other shortcuts like Windows+D
for desktop work fine.

The most common reasons of freezing explorer are openening folders
conatining many files ( say 2000 or more ) and connecting to network
shared folders and enumurating their contents.
disable automatic network file and printer search and delete unneeded
links to network resources(from "my network places" ).

Thanks for this thought. However I don't have folders with 2000 files and
I am not on a network (it is just a home computer). Furthermore this
doesn't explain why Explorer will open OK from Start/Accessories or from
desktop shortcut but will not open from the Windows+E keys.
