Hello,

i have terminal server with 5 users working on it. they mostly work on
Outlook (online mailbox). They have a lot of mails in their online account
and searching mail is horrible. i want to implement windows desktop search 4
which can indexing online mailbox.
Does someone test WDS in such environment?
How long will last indexin if user have 30000 mails?
How can index mails when user is not log in? user shoul must be log in to
indexing make happend?

1) Yes, TS has been supported by WDS for a couple of versions already ;-)
2) Impossible to say. The indexer runs during idle time. If one user is
idle, the another user might not be and the indexer will still not run. All
users must be idle.
3) Not possible. If you want to index a mailbox, Outlook must be running.
Once Outlook is running you can force the indexing by choosing "Index Now".
Note that this can generate a lot of disk I/O affecting all users on the TS.

Hello Robert

Thanks for you aswers.

i implemented windows desktop search 4
which can indexing online mailbox and noticed that Online mailbox can not be
indexed until swith cached mode. On WS4 site there is info ther online
mailbox is indexing. so how should i configure WS4 to start indexing ?

I have Exchange 2003 Std on WSBS 2003 Std and is it possible that WS4
indexing online mailboxes only on Exchange 2007?

Set(enabled) the following up in your group policy & rebuild index(and
ensure you are not in cached mode in Outlook)
(use gpedit.msc to enable it...)
"Enable Indexing of Uncached Exchange Folders"

i found it. as you write it is in LGPO on server where WSD4 is installed.

i have question. i know that turning indexing for online can provide higher
Exchange server activity.
if i enabke that policy. does indexing start right away after gpupdate? or i
have to do something else (i.e. change some setting...)?
