I upgraded my xp os to vista home premium 32bit. By mistake I uninstalled
windows defender. When i tried to reinstall, I got a message that I already
have it in the os. When I go into the control panel, and click on windows
defender I get a no file association 0x80070002 message.

I'd try running SFC /SCANNOW and see if that has any effect. Can't
hurt.

Are you sure you don't have Windows Defender? It's a part of Vista and as
far as I know can't be "uninstalled".
