Hi
I carried out a clean-install yesterday (reformat of HD and re-install
of OS) which went well and significantly improved the responsiveness of
my computer.
However, I am unable to get Windows Defender to install (it had been
running without problems, together with OneCare, prior to the
clean-install).
I tried it first as part of the package with OneCare form the Microsoft
Update site. Although the install of both appeared fine, after
rebooting, an error message appeared saying that "MSASCUI.exe failed to
start because MSVRCR.dll was not found" (MSASCUI.exe is a file
associated with Defender)
Then I ran sfc /scannow and rebooted and got the exact same error
message..
I then tried to install Defender on its own (OneCare was already
installed and operating without problems).
This time, the installation failed to complete due to "a network error
occurred while reading C:/Documents and Settings/Paul/Local
Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.ie5/4X2R49EF"
Can anybody suggest what might be the problem here?
TIA
Paul
