Windows Defender window

I have had my new laptop with Windows Vista for five months now. Everything
was great up until three weeks ago. Now, every time I start my computer I
get a Windows Defender box that pops up that says, "Application failed to
Initialize: 0x8001005." What does that ,and how can I fix it?

Thanks for the reply, but according to the link you supplied, the error
message was received after upgrading from XP to Vista. I bought this
computer with Windows Vista already installed. Also...when I go to Windows
Defender in the Control Panel, it seems like it is running properly. It
shows that the last scan was on 7/23/2007 and that my "computer is running
normally." I hesitate to do a System Restore unless I know absolutely that
will resolve the issue. One too many times I have tried to fix something and
something else gets messed up. Any other ideas?
