Windows Defender Install Error - Must First Uninstall MS One Care?

G

Guest

I tried upgrading Windows Defender to the current version. I was told I
needed to first uninstall the old version of Windows Defender. After I
uninstalled the old version, I again tried to install the NEW version, but
got an error message that said that I needed to uninstall my Microsoft One
Care program. I am concerned that I will uninstall One Care and not be able
to reinstall since installation on One Care is monitored in my on line MS One
Care account.

Any idea what I should do?

What version of OneCare? If OneCare is showing that you have antispyware
protection, I would NOT install Windows Defender. You are already
protected.

As Bill pointed out, if you are runing Windows Live OneCare 1.5, you
do not need to install Defender as antispyware scanning is included in
OneCare 1.5.
