Windows defender hijacks browser home page.

I posted this at /www.microsoft.com/athome/security/support/newsgroups/
having been unable to find any link to this site, and someone kindly
redirected me.

Everytime I download the latest update for Windows Defender it resets my
browser Home Page to a page which explains that it has done this for security
reasons, and then gives me very patronising insturctions for setting a page
of choice. I HAD a page of my choice...

This is driving me mad, and if I can't stop this I will just uninstall
Defender. Otherwise perhaps someone can tell me how to stop this happening.

I miss the anti-spyware beta.

Also today is the first time I have run this since installing yahoo widgets
and it disabled them all, and one has gone missing so that I had to download
it.

Any advice ?

Is Defender finding a threat? We should not make changes unless there was a
reason to.

I get no other alerts. I am at a complete loss as to how setting my home page
to an INTERNAL page can be seen as a threat. There is no explanation as to
why it is happening, or any notice that it is happening. Just the redirected
homepage next time I start up explorer.

What I need to know is how to stop this.

Thanks.

Victoria J.
