Windows Defender Stopped Working

My windows defender stopped working after I installed Microsoft Security
Essentials. Is this supposed to happen? I have Windows Vista Home Premium
w/SP 1 and 2 installed. BTW, it is the 32 bit version. Any one out there who
can answer this 1 for me? I can't get Defender to work whatsoever. A conflict
message has sprung up sometimes when I tried to turn it on. Also, how do I
get the Real Player icon removed from my Control Panel? I have uninstalled it
and removed anything connected to it out of my registry. Anyone?

See "Stroller"s message below.... he has indicated, " As Windows Defender is
now "turned off" by some antivirus programmes including AVG and Microsoft
Security Essentials...." I never knew that!!

windows defender is turned off by MSE because WD is a part of it
as for AVG there is a conflict with WD and AVG turns it off when AVG
installs

My Windows Defender stopped working after I installed Microsoft Security
Essentials too yet NO ONE has been able to address this issue or will even
say that it exists. I have tried to contact Microsoft but they are not
helpful. I'm glad to read your post. So it seems that the two can't operate
together. Fine. Why can't Microsoft say that instead of having people spend
valuable time trying to fix the issue? I really must wonder if they are
really on top of their game. It seems they are not!

Well, I am happy that I am not the only one with this problem!!! Is there an
answer to this or did I miss something.

I have the same problem with the same system. Defender turned off and will
not turn on again, I get an error code: 0x800106ba
Is it the Essentials that I downloaded last month that's causing the
problem?
My laptop was fine, now it's slow and sometimes internet explorer crashes.
And what's up with Microsoft not helping anyone? The way they respond to
people is just shy of being rude and they act like there aren't a kazillion
of us out there with the same problem (just read all of the posts!)
HELP! What do I do?
