Windows defender failed to install

When tring to install Windows Defender, it install part way and then displays
message; Service "Windows Defender Service" (Win Defend) failed to start.
Verify that you have sufficient provilages to start system services. I am
logged as Administrator. Any suggestions as to why I am getting this message?

What version of Windows?

Are you installing as an administrator?

Have you disabled any services--Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is required.

I'm having this same problem. WD won't install because I can't start system
services, whatever that means. Got Win2k pro. Tried disabling virus software.
Any help would be appreciated. AntiSpyware was much better than this because
at least I could install and use that. WD is useless. This is a personal
machine so I have all rights allowed.
