Windows Defender error: 0x8050800

Hi,

I have installed all the latest Windows updates as well as the definitions
for Windows Defender. But everytime I try to scan my system I get the
following error:

"Windows Defender error: 0x8050800. An Unexpected problem occurred. Install
any available updates, and then try to start the program again."

Any ideas on this?

I notice no letter after the number error, see this post, maybe you get lucky.

So far on all computers where I installed Windows Defender and had this code
when trying to scan everything got fixed after the first scheduled scan.

I get this error and have noticed some strange things.

Testing 15 times, it ALWAYS stopped on an EXE file. At first it was either
wowexec.exe and dvdplay.exe (alternating...no rhyme or reason). So I added
those two exe's to the do not scan list. Then it stopped at notepad.exe.
So I added notepad.exe to the list. And guess what, it stopped at
notepad.exe again even tho I confirmed that it was in the do not scan list.
It also always stops at file # 1655x but never on the exact same number.

I tried scheduling a scan (and cheated the clock), when the time hit, the
error came up again.

Windows Defender error 0x8050800.

I test software, especially antivirus and antispyware. W.D. beta2 Does not work. NO SUPPORT Until they fix it, use something else.

I am an experienced power user. I had no pronlems with Microsoft Antispyware original and beta 1. The new name "Windows Defender " is as usless as the program. Windows Defender is full of bugs. I got an error Windows Defender error 0x8050800 on quick and full scan.


The interface menu is too simple and plain. Hard to find controls. I am switching back to Ad-Aware, Webroot Spysweeper and the Windows Defender equivilant CounterSpy. Windows Defender has no support. Can not even manually update it or complain to anyone about it. If you ask me Microsoft has screwed up a great program, Microsoft Antispyware by GIANT. Worst MS software I have ever seen. And I like MS software.
