Windows Defender Beta 2 is too simple

Microsoft is making a mistake in making this software so simple and in hiding
it almost completely from the end user. I am used to knowing that there is
software running onmy system. I want that taskbar icon. I also want to see
the results of a scan. Please make these options that I can enable. Even if
it involves choosing simple or advanced mode.

I also miss all of the features from Beta 1 that they have removed (track
covering, etc...). And I would love to be able to schedule scans on any
combination of days of the week that I like, instead of daily or not at all.

Why have we lost so much functionality going from Beta 1 to Beta 2?

I agree. The default 'clean' and 'just work' attitude may be good for people
like my dad who can barely check e-mail, this is what makes me dislike the
Mac OS. Of course I don't know much about it because I never use a mac, I
just see one at work that the video guys use... but I'm a Windows power user,
and I like control. This is exactly the kind of stripped-down version that
will make me use another company's software (like Lava Soft Ad-Aware).

I hope Microsoft realizes that they don't need to 'dumb-down' their software
like this to make it useful to people.

When WD gets ready for prime I'll try it again. As for now I have gone back
to Beta 1 to get better configurability and to know that the beast is
actually there and doing its thing. WD was dumbded down and I resented
that, especially not even having an option to display the icon in the system
tray.

My $0.02:

I like the less intrusiveness of beta 2. I think it would be good to have
the additional functionality of beta 1 for those times that I want to use it,
but it's good not to be bothered with notificationitis. It's not that I don't
understand it, but with all the other things I need to do with my work, I
vote for not having to be bothered with all those other notifications. I just
want it to remove harmful threats and automatically update itself.

I would like to be able to check on a log from time to time to see that it
is doing its job and to review removed threats. I want to be able to run
manual scans and/or temporarily ramp up notification when desired.

I think it is fine for others to be able to control the software and use it
in a way more consistent with the way beta 1 worked, but I like for the
default behavior to be less intrusive.

I support the direction of Beta 2 in getting the program out of your way when
you do not need it. The theme here guys is making things like this work
without any attention from the user. That said, I think I would like to see
more details when performing a scan, but overall, the design decisions in
this beta are good.

I just "upgraded" back to Beta 1 and am glad I did. The interface doesnt
assume the user is an newbie and I know its running :)

My Defender icon is showing because I haven't allowed a daily scan; I guess
that's one way around it! I came to this Forum hoping to get answers from
Microsoft, but it seems that the only answers you get are from users. No
disrespect to my fellow "posters", but does Microsoft actually read and act
