Windows could not search for new updates

Windows Update fails.....Getting the above with error code 8024400A - an
error I haven't seen since
XP SP1 days. Everything else connects just fine...anyone know what's
wrong?

That's interesting, all of a sudden now I'm getting this error also
trying to use the Vista Windows update. It was fine yesterday . Tried to
use System Restore for a revert to an earlier date, and THAT cannot
install-due to some 'unspecified error' ..

Anyone got a fix?

I think the 8024400A bug is caused by RC2 fever. Tomorrow won't be an
ordinary Friday in Redmond. I'll go to sleep and let the dice roll.

It is a bug in both 5600 and 5728. If RC2 is released to CPP I would suggest
downloading that as the issue has been resolved.

Thanks one and all, I'm glad it isn't just me. Strange it would work one
day and not the next. I'm inclined to go with the server explanation. Also
glad to here that RC-2 irons out a few problems.

Do you expect the "Update" mechanism to be used to distribute RC2?
