Windows Components Wizard will not open

Each time I try to clean up my Windows Components, the Windows Components
Wizard will flash status activity and then I get a "Completing the Windows
Components Wizard message with the only option to click finish.

How can I correct this so that I can actually see the Windows Components?
I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Thanks,

Ascertain the drive letter where your Windows operating system resides
( often C drive ) and also for your CD drive. You need this information
to modify the command detail below. You need to substitute the first for
Z"" and the second for "X".

Put your Windows XP CD in your CD drive and select Start, Run and type
"cmd" without the quotes and hit ENTER. This brings you to a Command
Prompt.

Type the following "Expand -R X:\I386\IIS.IN_ Z:\Windows\Inf" without
the quotes and hit ENTER. Take care to includes the spaces as they are
shown.

To return to Windows type "exit" without the quotes and hit ENTER.

Gerry:

Thanks but my problem is still there. The Components Wizard just flashes
through the status window and my only option is to click Finish. It seems to
be automating an action without allowing my input. Any other suggestions.

How long is it since this problem began?

Try Start, Run, type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and hit Enter.

Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker
(Sfc.exe)

May not work but worth a try as it will do no harm.

Gerry:
I appreciate your help. I've had this problem for about six months now. It
doesn't look like the sfc /scannow worked. It's almost as if I have been
restricted from seeing or adjusting the Windows Components specifically. I
can add/remove all other programs with no problems.

Thanks,

I've had the same problem.
It occurred just after I made some changes in the file "sysoc.inf". (%systemroot%/inf/sysoc.inf)
This file contains information for the Windows Components Wizard which components to show.
Sentences for Components that include the word "hide" will not show in the Windows Components Wizard.
I had changed some of the "hide" commands into ",," as was recommended in a website I read.
I should have just removed the word "hide" and not inserted the ",,".
This seemed to be the problem.
When I removed these comma's, the Windows Components Wizard worked perfectly again.

Example:

WBEM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wbemoc.inf,hide,7 (This component would not show)
WBEM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wbemoc.inf,,,,7 (Windows Components Wizard will act the way you discribed)
WBEM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wbemoc.inf,,7 (This component will show)
