"Windows cannot access the specified device ..."

I am getting the following error when I select a shortcut
on my desktop.
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or
file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to
access the item."

I an access the program if I go through start->All
programs -> (etc).

The MSWord shortcut works.

I am running XP pro and I just installed sp1.

Any idea what is wrong?

The error means the path to the shortcut is incorrect. If the shortcut for
Word on your start > all programs works. Right click that shortcut/Send
To/Desktop (create shortcut).
If that doesn't work, do a search for the program's .exe and create a
shortcut from where you find the .exe.
