And continues, you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
Can anyone please help me, I am not technically minded when it comes to
computers but when I try to open an email attachment Im getting the above
error message. I can save the attachment and then open it but cannot open it
as I used to. Ive read other posts on here about setting it to default as it
may be something to do with IE 7 but I dont have an Internet Explorer
enhanced security config box to click, just an Internet explorer box.
I used to be able to open attachments and havent changed anything knowingly,
the only thing that Ive changed is my service provider. Im now on Sky?????
Any help in laymans terms is very much appreciated.

Well, you have a permission issue with your user account or other accounts.
I have had that twice on folders here lately. One folder I made to hold
files, and the other one was the User/Document folder. I don't know why it
happened why it changed, but one account each time with one being the
Authenticated user group account, and one I believe was my admin User
account didn't have the proper permissions set for the folders in questions
anymore, which superseded all other accounts on the folders and their
permissions.

I needed to save files to the folders and those two accounts had *read* only
permissions, where before that, they both had all permissions on the
folders.

As an example, the Authenticated user group account had read only permission
on the Document folder, while my admin User Account had all rights on the
folder. The Authenticated user group account with its read only permission
overrode my admin User account with all permissions. Therefore, I couldn't
save the file to the folder with my admin User account, because the
Authenticated user account was preventing it with its read only permission.
Of course, I gave Authenticated user the same permissions as my admin User
account.

The user account called Everyone if being used can supersede the Admin
account on a folder, with its permissions. I don't use the Everyone account.
It has been removed off all folders starting at <C> root, and I have
replaced it with Authenticated user for security.

So if I were you, I would start looking at the permissions on folders for
user accounts to see who has what rights for the user accounts, because you
have a user account permission issue.

Thanks for replying,
I had a friend come round whos a self taught IT 'expert' and he couldnt
fathom out what was wrong so Im keen to try what you suggested. Where do I
start? Where do I look for the permissions on files and what do I do to
rectify them? Sorry to sound so thick. Thanks again

You right-click on the Start button, select Explorer, you select a folder
or a file in a folder, you right-click it, select Properties, and select the
Security Tab. You click each account in the list and at the bottom part of
the screen to the its permissions. To get a better look at the permissions
for an user account showing, you use the Edit button.

A folder and its user account permissions supersedes a file in the folder
with its user account permissions..
