Windows 95 emulator for XP ?

an old application will run okay on win95/98, but will not run correctly
under winXP. even when setting the application mode to windows 95 or windows
98, the application when running on a winXP machine stalls and shows blank,
white screens while running. are there any other options to try or perhaps a
windows 95 emulator that would allow this older win95 program to run
correctly on a winXP machine ? just wanted to see if there were any
alternatives out there to consider before making the winXP machien a
dual-boot machine ( which we wanted to avoid if possible ). tia ...

or even better VMWare 5.0
Works great to emulate any OS with full access to serial / parallel port

I believe that VMWare was bought by Microsoft, who have since renamed it to
Microsoft Virtual PC.

Can you give us some specifics about this application?

Some older applications used a lot of "cute programmer tricks" such as
having the application control the hardware directly instead of using
operating system function calls.

These apps would often operate okay with Windows 95 or 98 but have
trouble with any NT based version of Windows (NT4/2000/XP) because
direct hardware access by an application is totally prohibited in
these versions.

well, you are incorrect
M$ bought different company (can't remember name right now)
As I said, VMWare is better option than MS VPC
