Windows 2K wont boot

I have been running 2K for 3 years and this week while
loading Norton Firewall the machine froze up. Had to
shut off machine to reboot. It wouldn't reboot. Even
with 2K CD and repair it wouldn't finish repair went
about 25% and froze up. It now starts windows gets
almost complete then either frezes the system or reboots
it self.

After about 100 boot attemps with and without the CD it
has only come up 3 times. Each time it looked fine until
I tried to do anything from the program I was running.
For example I was in Quick books and tried to print, it
froze. I was in Internet Explorer and tried to go to
Outlook it rebooted it self.

Any ideas on how to get this back on track?

I would try Safe Mode, then uninstall the firewall.

If this does not work then you may have to do a fresh
installation of Win2000 (and maybe all applications).
During the installation process you will be asked for a
destination folder.

- If you select c:\Winnt then you will not have to re-install
your current apps. However, you may inherit your current
problems.

- If you select some other folder, then you will have to
re-install all your apps. On the other hand you will
avoid the current problems.

In either case you have to re-install Service Pack 4.
