Windows 2000 SP4 install problem (cmd.exe)

I seem to be having a problem installing SP4 on my Win 2000 server.

I have downloaded the network install and after the "Inspecting" and
backup of files, I get a copy error. The install can not find the file
c:\winnt\servicepackfiles\i386\cmd.exe. I looked in that folder and
its not there. So i desided to copy it from another server to the
requested folder. Windows will not let me do that either.

How can I get the SP4 Install to find the required cmd.exe file if i
can not copy it to the required folder ?

Thank for the help...

Hi;

First guess would be that your download was incomplete or corrupted for
some reason. Suggest you empty your IE TIF and your local Temp folder,
then download SP4 again.

Thanks for answering Syk King.

I did the clearing of the IE TIF and Temp directory. Re downloaded the
network install of SP4. ... Same problem. seems that it can not find
the CMD.exe in the c:\winnt\servicepackfiles\i386 folder. I looked for
it my self and cant find it. but when I try to copy it there from
another folder, the system reports that it cant overwrite the CMD.exe
file .... So I would guess its hidden and even with the "Show hidden
files" set on, i still can see it or replace it and neather can the
SP4.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode, logging in as "the"
Administrator, then installing SP4?

Yes. same problem. I am at the point that I cant install any updates
or hotfixes to the OS. I am sure that I have some security holes. I
guess I will have to reformat and install Windows 2k3. I cant get any
help from Microsoft and Gooling is returning nothing.
