Windows 2000 sound driver

I have no sound on my Compaq Presario 5000 desktop. There
are no drivers apparently since there are no "event"
sounds. How can I obtain the sound drivers for this?
Compaq does not make them available for download for
Windows 2000.

Do a google search for Aida32, a sys inf tool
Use it to see if you can identify sound hardware.
If Compaq's sound chip is mb based theres probably nothing you can do other
than buy a new soundcard that is compatible with win2k, and disable the
onboard chip, in the bios.
Its allways a good idea prior to installing a new o/s doing a compatability
check.
I note that there are no drivers available for Win2K for yr compaq, which
includes video drivers.
The possible downside frm buying a 'Brand name' is that you may be locked
into their Brand
Even the mb/case are likely to be none standard sizes.
