I receive the message "the following value in the .SIF file used by setup is
corrupted or missing. Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDisksFiles] with
Key "SP1.cab". Setup cannot continue. What does this mean??

Thanks for any replies!

How are you installing? To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000
install CD-Rom or setup disks. The set of four install disks can be created
from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the
CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and
follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

I was using the four setup diskettes however I deleted the boot partition and
another partition (D) but kept the final partition (E). Do I have to delete
all partitions?

No you don't need to do that but be aware that Microsoft defines the boot
partition for the partition where the operating system is installed, while
the system partition is the first primary active partition (where the boot
sector resides)

Now the remaining partition (if primary) has become the active partition
(system partition)

For the error message you receive try recreating the setup disks or just
boot the CD-Rom if possible.

I recreated the set up diskettes and then the installation worked fine.
There must have been a problem with the original set up diskettes. Thanks
for your help!!
