Windows 2000 Professional install problem

Dave

I recently was having some problems with my Windows 2000
professional machine so I tried to run the Win 2k pro cd
and chose the update and repair a previous Windows
installation option. Now the PC is running setup but
cannot find any of the .CAT files that it says it needs to
continue the installation. I have been pointing it to
the .CAT files that are located on the C:\WINNT..... THe
problem is that it takes like 10 minutes for each file
before it asks me to locate it. If I have to do many more
files this is going to take forever. My question is this:
Can I exit this installation and just have my pc go back
to the way it was? If I try to boot up without the Windows
CD in it always gets past the Windows 2000 screen then
says entering setup. I also tried hitting F8 and selecting
last known good configuration...but when that booted up it
also went into setup. How can I cancel setup? Thanks for
your help!

Tough!

You cannot cancel setup. You either have to complete Setup or start over
with a fresh format.

You've had about the worst thing happen that could happen. Setup failed and
restarted. Chances are about 100% that your original installation is totally
hosed and you have no option but to reinstall the O/S and ALL your software.

Sorry 'bout your luck.
