Windows 2000 Prof and Window XP Prof

I

Ivan Kan

I have 2 computers at my home. One is Windows 2000 Prof and the other one is
Win XP.

Both of them belong to the same workgroup, with same IP group and subnet
mask.

What I want to do is to share some folders in WinXP to let Windows 2000 Prof
to use.

However, I found that when the Windows 2000 Prof try to access WinXP by
\\XP-PC-NAME, it require login. I have tried all login in Win XP PC and
fail.

Actually, both Windows 2000 Prof and Windows XP are using the same
Administrator password. I expect it will not ask for password when I access
from Windows 2000. However, it still require login and password.

What can I do? does I miss something?

Names like "administrator" mean nothing in any NT based operating system.
Computer accounts and user accounts are made up of SIDs (Security
Identifiers). The 2 administrator accounts are seperate identities and
managed by distinct security providers (since this isn't a domain). Who is
logged in at the station is irrelevent.

Create a new account on W2K with appropriate rights and privileges, and
connect through the network from XP with the created account's credentials
(and vice-versa). Thats what the InterProcess Communication RPC ($IPC) is
asking for (a distinguishable and existing account at *target* with the
required rights to perform network login).

On XP, verify that firewall is corretly configured.
