Windows 2000 passwords

David

We cannot logon to wondows 2000 at all! Started having
problems with first password (apparently keyboard
initialization) and switched, using prescribed method.
Now Windows won't recognize ANY password and we can't get
into our Inspiron at all. Dell's helpful suggestion was
to reinstall operating system -- losing all files, since
last backup cd isn't responding to our other machine and
is apparently defective.

Any suggestions?????????

If nothing else works, put the hard drive in another
windows 2000 machine (set drive as slave), and you'll be
able to transfer and save your important files to the new
machine's drive. Another option is to set up a parallel
windows 2000 operating system on your machine and access
your files through "windows explorer". Microsoft's
article on parallel systems is:

us;266465

Good Luck!

Another option is Winternals. They have a utility to
change the password for any account on a Win2000 box. Go
to their web site; you might be able to download it. It's
pricey, though, but might be worth it if you absolutely
have to have everything on the PC, and still use the
existing accounts to access it. Your network
administrator may already have this software if you work
for a larger company. You may find similar software on
the internet as well. I am only familiar with Winternals
product.
