windows 2000 ntfs file security

i have a machine with win2k profeesional and recently i
changed my admin password,but iam unable to login using
my account as i forget the password. i have all my
official documents(tenders,company policies,Annual
reports) inside my documents folder.i tried to acess the
folder from windows xp installed on the same machine
(using the administrator account) but iam unable to
retrieve my files.what's the way i can retrieve my files
safely ?

Your machine dual boots between XP and W2K?
Log on under XP, select the folder containing your files
and 'Take ownership' of it. See this article

You may need to try to take ownership of those folders/files. That
should work unless those folders/files were encrypted using EFS [which could
be a major problem if that is so] . Not sure it they were encrypted, then
use the cipher command to find out or try to examine file
