Ok, I have a friends pc and I'm going to install WinXp on it. His HD was too
small, so he got one from work that come out of a pc with Win2000/NT on it. I
want to reformat the HD and do a clean install of WinXP. When I go to the
Recovery Console with the WinXP disc and get to the prompt where it asks what
drive, it asks me for an administrator password. How can I get past this in
order to reformat? I tried booting the pc off the HD to disable the password,
but it want get past the Starting Windows screen. Thanks.

Wipe out the drive using the harddrive utility disk and wipe it to
zeros........You'll cause yourself more grief relying on the OS install
disk to do any manipulating properly unless the disk is wiped of any
other traces of an OS.

You can't format the drive from within the Recovery Console.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
