Windows 2000 Install Directory?

B

Bill

Formatted a fresh 100G drive for Windows 2000 Pro, installed the OS and let the install
program convert C: to NTFS. I just finished installing all my laptop's HW drivers

(THANKS to Pegasus, John John, and Dave Patrick for your advice on the install!!!).

Now, my Windows 98 computer had a directory with all the CABS in
C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS

Does Windows 2000 support a CABS install directory, or something like it? How do I set
up a directory like this?

Bill.

You can copy the \i386 directory to the fixed disk and point the Reg_Sz
string "SourcePath" to this location.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

(note that this path ahould be one level above the \i386 folder)

So, if I copy the contents of the \i386 folder on the CD to

C:\WINNT\i386

I would set Reg_Sz to the value C:\WINNT\ ?
or C:\WINNT\i386 ?

(I think you are saying the 2nd, although I don't know how Windows will find the files
then

The former ........C:\winnt ..... though I'd put it in the root as opposed
to the "windows" directory. So you would have a dir named C:\I386 and point
the Reg_Sz string "SourcePath" to "C:\"
