In your browser go to http://webmail.tampabay.rr.com and log in.
Then clean out all the folders in your webmail. If you want to save
any messages, create a new folder and move those messages to the
new folder. Empty the spam and thrash folders also. Close webmail,
then try Windows Mail again.

If no improvement, which antivirus are you running? Some of them
are not fully compatible with Windows Mail.

I am having similar problems. I am on RoadRunner in central florida so my
address is cfl.rr.com. I followed you instructions and emptied my webmail
folders. There were many in the junk folder. I also sometimes get the, there
is a instance of webmail already running and I need to end it before startign
a new session. Also my junk email filter will screen out emails from friends
that I have approved time after time.

I did change anti-virus programs recently and that the only change I can
relate it to. I had Norton 360 and switched to the free Internet security
package that RoadRunner provides called CA Security Systems.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Did you completely uninstall Norton? If it's merely disabled, portions of
it are likely still active and causing trouble. A full uninstall followed
by running Norton's debris removal tool to cleanup all the junk the
uninstaller leaves behind is often required to fully recover from a Norton
infestation.

Thank you for the replies, I am running the Norton removal tool now to see if
that helps. If I get the errot message again I will copy and paste it here
and see what happens.

I seem to be getting messages stuck in my email server. The server will time
out after downloading a couple messages and then stop and then on the next
send recieve cycle it will download the same couple messages agai. I can go
to the webmail portal and read my mail and delete the messages and that seems
to help for a bit. However I can only do this from home. I am not sure if
this is a windows mail problem or a problem with my server.

I also installed windows live mail that I found in another post, and it
happens there as well which leads me to believe its a server issue but I am
not sure.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, this is a server issue. When an email message on the server gets
corrupted, it can't be downloaded by your email client program. You
have to delete it via webmail in order to unplug the jam.

Thanks Gary, here is the error message I am getting. My question is it normal
for it to happen this often? It used to never happen and since the switch
from Norton it seems at least once a week sometimes more.

Unable to send or receive messages for the RoadRunner account. Your server
has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include
server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

It's not normal. Frankly I don't know why you are getting that particular
error message.

Or if you are familiar with POP3 commands and the correct sequence to
use them, you should also be able to telnet to the pop3 server and
delete the offending message, providing the telnet client is installed.

Indeed, but most users are not that tech-savvy. :)
Those without webmail access can use http://mail2web.com.
