winchat on winxp

Maybe this is out of topic of this group. But at least
there's something similiar, so I can hope I've got the
answer for the following problem:
my computer is connected to network with workgroup system.
I wanna use the 'winchat thing' by typing winchat on Run
dialog box and I've already enabling the Net DDE and Net
DDE DSDM service.
But everytime I start the conversation the client computer
doesn't recieve any notification at all that I'm calling.
The required services has already been started in the
client computer.
Is this because we're loggin' in with different username
on each computer or ..???

thanks

Greetings Kent,

Actually the built-in Windows XP Firewall may simply be blocking it. The one within SP2
should prompt you to make an exception, so I'll assume you're still using SP1. To check to
see if the firewall has been engaged, click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, then
Communications, and then Network Connections. Right click your network/internet connection,
then click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab, and verify that the Internet Connection
Firewall is unchecked.

Thanks for the answer Jon...
I have already upgraded my winxp with SP2. Since my PC
lies in a network that has dedicated firewall machine, I
see no need to turn on the integrated firewall feature
within XP, so I turn it off. I've been disabling the
Security Manager, since it's just annoying me with such as
baloon message.
Simply said that I've disabled all security tools that
brought by win XP and rather believe in antivirus program
and some dedicated security machine.
Then, I believe there's no firewall program in my win XP
box which blocking out my connection.
This winchat thing is not really that matter to me. I'm
just curious finding winchat.exe on my sys32 folder, and
wanna try that a little bit. Netmeeting is more convinient
for chat purpose.
But still, I'm curious ....
