Win98/XP networking problem

Hi,

I have setup a LAN using a netgear router 192.168.0.1,
an XP machine with fixed IP 192.1687.0.2 and an old
win 98 SE machne with fixed IP 192.168.0.3. Both belong
to workgroup "mshome"

I want to do filesharing and printersharing.

The problem is that i can browse files on the 98
machine from the XP machine. I cannot access the
XP from the 98 machine. When i click the network, the
98 says: "Not connected to a network" or something similar.
I can surf the internet from the 98, and i can ping the XP.

Can someone advice me how to "connect the 98
to a network"

Best Regards

Henrik

I have set up the same network, I used XP's network
wizzard to set it up.
It worked first time !
I did make sure I shared folders on the XP machine tho.
I am trying to set up the 98 machine with a fixed IP, but
have not got it working yet any ideas ?

Hi,

Just a question about your network:
Do you login on your XP machine and with
the same user/pwd on the 98? I don't
login on either and I got a response in another
group that i had to do that.

About the fixed IP. I changed it from DHCP to a
fixed IP. Use the router IP as default gateway
and DNS server. If you are running zone alarm,
add the IP's of the other computers in the net
to the trusted zone.
