Please post a proper copy!

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware, Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Hope this helps.

I apologise for how i presented my question
no marks in device manager
i'd have to do a screen shot to show error message (and it's on a different
computer than mine)
the App and Mod info are the details from the "Win32 generic host error"
event log calls it an application error ID:1000 and that i should send the
information to microsoft for analysis

Oh, let's see...

If you use Google to search for: Win32 generic host error

You will find lots of ideas. Some are pretty easy and some are not.

I go for the simple ideas first.

This may be a red herring but what HP printers and scanners do you have?

I am guessing you have this service installed.

Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and right click
on HP Network Device Support and select Properties. Change the
StartUp type from Automatic to Manual.

The change could be just a Stop gap requiring an update of HP software.
