Win2k (SP4) reboots constantly

I think that I know what's next but I'll try anyway.
A Win2k Pro workstation fully patched and checked for
viruses (Norton AV 7/12/04 definitions) daily starts
rebooting after original keyboard was replaced with a USB
type keyboard.
Normal booting sequence occurs until after the welcome
screen appears.
I'm not able to access safe mode in any form (reboot still
occurs). Used recovery console looking perhaps for the
sasser virus footprints (no avail). Used "Last known good
configuration" and emergency repair to no avail. Tried
fixboot and fixmbr just for kicks and still nothing.
I think that I'm toast but are there any suggestions?
Thanks.

I neglected to say that "Yes" I did put the old keyboard
back and even replaced it with a similar one.
Regards.
