In the event viewer I have tried to set the properties on each Log to show me only Failed audits and Errors. I uncheck all the other filter options and then hit apply. I close the Event viewer and then when I open it again all the Filters are checked again. How to I make the Filters stay unchecked

Right click on the event viewer shortcut and choose "Author" then save your
changes before closing. HTH.
