Event Viewer questions

It appears that some applications, upon installation, add their own Event
Viewer icons to W2K's Event Viewer. My anti-virus program does & I'm fine
with that.

However I have one event log icon I'm not sure about. It generally contains
no events to review. It's name is 'ACEEventLog' -- a Google search produces
the same questions about its function from other users. Based upon some
hits and hints, the purpose may have some connection to reviewing the
performance my ATI Radeon graphics adapter. The properties of the icon
reveal nothing - not even the location of its log. My W2K online and manual
references are also relatively clueless.

Here are my questions:

(1) Where can I access info that explains how the Event Viewer icons are
created, deleted, and managed? (2) Where in the W2K register can I find
their settings? (3) How do I proceed to find info for strange icons like
'ACEEventLog?' (4) What suggestions can be offered for questions I have not
thought to ask on this issue?

Thank you.

Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog

You should see a key for each log in Event Log. Will tell you where the
..evt log files are kept, and possibly an explanation of what ACE is.

Thanks for that, "NewScience." I bookmarked the register Eventlog for future
reference.

FYI - I was mildly surprised to discover ACEEventLog there (1) because I had
searched the register for it earlier & got nada (2) because the register
keys link it to the Microsoft.NET folder (version 1.1) and not to any
visible graphics card function that I was first led to believe it had. The
specific file in the folder tree that the key points to is
'EventLogMessages.dll'

If I were more persistent, I probably could unearth the purpose for the log
in the Event Viewer but I cannot see why I ought to spend any more time and
effort to go there.
