Win2K and Modem problem Part 2

Hello al
following on from my previous messag
A friend has recently upgraded his pc from WIN ME to Win2K
professional.
He accesses the internet through a modem, and on first upgrade he had
no problems, but now, although he can connect to the Internet ok,
opening a mail client (Pegasus) or browser (IE6) leads to a message
that the server cannot be found.
Can anyone give me an idea where to start looking for the problem or
what may be causing it ? Or would it be better to format his hard
disk and do a clean install ?
TIA
Stuar

I have done some more investigation and found that when logged on in a User role he can ping th
loopback, but if he tries to ping either the ISP server or his own machine he gets a
Transmission Error 65
If logged in as Administrator he can ping his ISP server, DNS severs and his own machine
Still gets the same with email or browser, though, server not found
Any ideas

The advice previously given was that an upgrade from WinME
to Win2000 is totally unsupported. If you do it anyway then you
have to live with the consequences. They can be extremely
intriguing, and can provide entertainment for countless hours.

Thanks for your reply, and that is what I will do
For some reason, however, when I access the newsgroup I canno
see that I have received any advice to my previous post, so pleas
accept my apologies for repeating the post
Thank
Stuar
