Win2000prof. hangs just before setup ?

Thomas Mortensen

Hi pros!
I need some help here,

I just finished building af workstation for Adobe applications.
Now - when I try to install Win2000prof. OS I am completely lost.

I have configured a RAID 5 with 3 disks ATLAS 10K same model all of them
powered by an
Adaptec RAID controller AAA-133U2. CD is Plextor bootable.
Everything goes well (I press F6 during installation and the system acceps
the Adaptec Array1000U2 driver disk.
After installation of the driver the installation continues a few minuttes
until I get the text "Setup is starting Windows 2000" in the lower left
corner
of the screen. Theneverything stops..first stops the CD drive to spin then a
short break and then it starts to spin again and after some minuttes the CD
stops completely ?
And that is it - the end a blue microsoft screen with the above text ?

I have tried everything what is possible for a "normal" computer guy:

-updated the bios of the raid controller
-updated the mainboard bios (Microstar 6156 with BX chipset)
-swapping graphics cards from agp to pci and opposite
-disabled everything in bios unless the most important
-installed a IDE disk with Win2000prof. - that worked well. After this
operation I added my RAID card but again
I ended up with the pc not able to work with driver from adaptec..even the
the detection of the raid card went ok
I mean the dialog boxes came up as a sign of the new hardware.

Anybody around having a good advice ?

Best regards, Thomas, Copenhagen Denmark

Sounds like a problem with the RAID card to me, especially if you know you
can do a clean install to an IDE drive. I would contact Adaptec and make
sure that your configuration is valid and if it is, get a replacement for
the card as a first step.

Thanks for your advice.
I start the battle with Adaptec, I thought about it for some time..
The problem with Adaptec is about getting support. I cannot get in contact
with that damm company without paying up front....YES that's right I mean I
am not entitled to anything ragarding support at all ..even an e-mail to
Adaptec will cost me..it is not easy to be a end-user at the moment....

Thanks anyway, I will post some lines in this forum about my case

Best regards, Thomas
