Reloaded W2K, now in explorer RAID-1 disk "cannot find the device"

Ok right now I have a drive that I cannot access.

I started with W2K Advanced Server w/ all service packs. Running
with a Adaptec 1200a RAID controller card (using 1 channel, 2x 80 Gig
Western Digital drives connected). The drives are NTFS formatted.
The OS is on a _different_ disk that is not RAID. I had some GUI /
window problems (Outlook, etc.) and decided to reload the OS.
This time I loaded W2K Professional, not Advanced Server. I
installed the latest drivers avail on Adaptec's website for the 1200a.
I also installed all OS related service packs / critical updates.
The drive then showed up in Device Manager as a basic disk, NTFS
with the correct amount of free space (~23GB). I used Explorer to
access the drive ('R:' does dsplay on the list in 'My Computer').
Explorer complained that it cannot access the drive with windows error
#20, "cannot find the device". Puzzled I tried the following:

Checked cables, rebooted and same error.
Reinstall the Adaptec driver from the original cd I received with my
card, same error (Device Manager correctly shows the Adaptec 1200a
card).
Checked another NTFS disk, Explorer can read it. Removed this test
drive with power off.
Shutdown, unplugged a drive that was part of the RAID-1 array and
"put it on the shelf" to remove it from testing & rebooted. The
Adaptec controller correctly notified me that the array had correctly
failed because I physically removed a drive cable & power. I now have
4 options (I will use this order later).
1 - Shutdown & check connections
2 - Boot "as is" and disable fault tolerance
3 - Break the array
4 - Re-create the array

I tried 2, with the same effect - drive shows in Disk Manager but not
accessable via Explorer

I tried 3, same effect - the drive is now not part of an array but is
accessed via the RAID controller card. Same error.

Unplugged drive from RAID controller, plugged directly into the IDE
Controller card on the Motherboard - still same errors.

I loaded W2K Advanced Server (without Service Packs) on the spare
'test' disk, and this also has the same access error but can be seen
in Device Manager.

Please help this disk is important!
Thanks.

I now remember having set Security on the Disk (to only allow certain
users on the OS that I formatted)! How can I recover from this?

Ok right now I have a drive that I cannot access.

It turns out all I needed to do was 'right-click' on the drive and add
the new administrator/users to the access list.
