Win XP stalls when installing

C

Chris

I am attempting to upgrade Win ME to Win XP Pro on a
Toshiba 2800 2805-S202 laptop. When I run the check
compatibility, it stalls and won't complete the check.

I have performed every step in articles 316639, 318008,
and 305883 and I have downloaded the advisor software and
run it from my hard drive. Nothing works.

HELP!

Did you check the Event Viewer to see if there was an error or errors listed
there? Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer,
look for errors that correspond to when you had the problem double click the
error, the information within may give a clue as to the source of the issue.

Michael Windows ME does not have the event viewer. Nor does it have
Administrative Tools.

You are so right. I was looking at it from a standpoint of having XP
installed something which he said he was unable to do. And he can't seem to
run the compatibility wizard either.

I apologize for my previous post I should have been more careful in reading
your post.

You say you downloaded the Advisor, have you tried simply running it from
the XP CD. At the ME desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup
menu appears, select "Check System Compatibility."

If that doesn't work, post the software that is installed on your setup,
tell us the hardware configuration, processor and processor speed, graphics
card, sound card. If you haven't already done so, remove any firewall
software, antivirus software and any CD burning software. You should also
know that all such software and any disk tools will need to be updated for
XP as ME versions of that type of software will not work with XP and may
interfere with setup which is why I mentioned you should remove any such
software.
