Win XP SP1 VPN "Verifying username and password"

C

Chuck

I am using a Win XP SP1 system to try and connect to my
company's VPN (PPTP).

My win2000 PC with the exact same settings connects
flawlessly (problem is it's a desktop, not a laptop).

I realize there is an issue with XP SP1 and connecting to
a VPN. What I can't find is a fix.

Is there any way to fix my XP SP1 system to connect to the
company VPN and not get hung on the "Verifying username
and password"?

If not, what is the server fix? This will of course take
forever to be implemented so a fix for my laptop would be
significantly more valuable.

Thanks a lot in advance.

PPTP Passthrough/GRE is not working on your connection. Check with
your router/firewall and make sure either PPTP Passthrough/GRE or IP
Protocol 47 is being enabled...

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure this is the problem.
I'm not using a firewall on my XP SP1 client machine and
my Win2k client connects perfectly. I know there are
issues with XP SP1 versus no SP1 and 2000. I'm just not
sure how to get around them.

Thanks,
Chuck

My only other suggestion is to re-install SP1 and see if it helps...

One other thing to do is to go to your VPN connection, select
properties, and then go to the Networking options. Click where it
says Auto and make sure you select PPTP. Sometimes Windows will try
to establish a IPSEC tunnel in lieu of a PPTP Tunnel.

Check if you have SPI Firewall protection active on router or not. Enable it if it is not.
