How can I clear the history in the Win XP search box.

eg: start>search

I have a long history of previous searches which is very annoying and I just
want to clear everything out.
thanks

there are different
methods. but one
of the easier ones is
using programs like
ccleaner. it takes
care of this aspect and
gives your the option
to clean out other areas
that have come to your attention
yet.

if you choose the freeware
above, be sure to make
a system restore point or
back up our registry before
cleaning, unitl you get the
hand of it and the options
it provides.....

Besides the Run MRU (Most Recently Used) list, this also clears...

IE History, AutoComplete, Clear the TIF, Clear the Run MRU, Typed
URL's and Clear List:

XP Start Menu:
You have to switch to Classic long enough to get the Clear button.
Right click the Start button | Properties | Select Classic Start Menu |
Customize button | Clear button | Click OK | Select Start menu | Click Apply
|Click OK

Classic Start Menu:
Right click the Start button | Properties | Customize button | Clear button

Clear button
[[Removes the list of recently accessed documents, programs, and Web sites
from the Documents menu.]]

The XP Start Menu Clear button does not clear the Run MRU. The Classic
Start Menu Clear button will clear everything in the Run MRU.

IF you are NOT A NOVICE:
Run REGEDIT.
Do File > Export <all> just in case you mess it up.
Delete the search values from:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru
HKEY_USERS\S-something (current machine ID)\Software\Microsoft\Search
Assistant\ACMru\5603
