Win XP problem with CD ROM

My system was working fine, then I tried to update the XP for "security
Patch" recently (about a1 1/2 month ago). I put the new 52X CD RW in every
time I started the computer, XP looks for the 52X CD drive to install and
could not find it. The system is still working but I can't not install
anything now on, I try with another CD ROM and printer and it is the same
problem. Any suggestion?
