I totally agree, although I would recommend a new hard drive for more
space and the one he has is probably 5400 and not 7200.

I have HDD 7200 rpm, it seems, although I am not sure, just fogot where to
check this.
Since I bought used memory, I need test it, to run some memtests before
deciding install win XP.

Should I just reformat hard drive to install Win XP, or do reformatting in
some special way, to get NTFS not FAT32?

I would reformat by going into the BIOS and setting the CD to boot
first, stick the XP CD in the CDROM, exit and save the BIOS and let XP
format the drive in NTFS. Once XP is installed, do a clean
up/chkdsk/defrag. Then go back into the BIOS and set the boot order back
to normal. Then get the updates from Windows Update. Then install your
programs and lastly, install your devices such as a printer, camera,
etc. The do a clean up/chkdsk/defrag again.

Could you specify more detaily how to go into BIOS and set the CD to boot
first? Or specify link.
You mean clean up/chkdsk/defrag from command line?

Going into the BIOS will depend on your computer. Usually, when you
first boot up you will see something like Set Up F2. If so, hit F2.
Sometimes it's the Del key. Once you're in the BIOS look around for the
boot order. You can then highlight it with the arrows of your computer
and change it using Page Up and Page Down. You may have to highlight it
and then hit enter to change it. Different BIOS have different ways.

No, I mean double click on My Computer. Right click on your C drive. On
the General tab, click on Disk Cleanup. Once that's done, click on the
Tools tab and click on Check Now. Do not tick either option, just click
on Start. When it's done, click on Defragment Now, also under the Tools
tab. Then click on the Defragment button and wait until it's done.

And choose Properties.

We agree then, as expected. A new, larger hard drieve is recommended.
